After their first album ENEMY AND LOVERS produced by Cristian Vogel in 2003 and their critically acclaimed second album TIME published last year, the french duo Scratch Massive come back with their new project: “UNDERGROUND NEEDS YOUR MONEY BABY” (CD and DVD).
Scratch Massive bring their new, innovative project into the forefront by embracing the frontiers between music and image in this 53 mn must see using musical mastering and visual force.
As watch it, you feel it vibrating through your whole body.
The vision for this DVD was inspired by a special creation last spring for LE GEODE, the huge panoramic screen theater in Paris where beautiful live music by Scratch Massive and Plaid (Warp Records UK) mixed with experimental visuals created by their video directors made for a simply amazing collaboration.
This inspired and hugely successful live show gave Scratch Massive the motivation to push even further to release this mature and magnificent concept on a dvd where the watcher / listener can dive in the heart of this intense and large live experience.
Maud Geffray and Sebastien Chenut find their revelations in the ever learning culture of DJing. Since the closing of the famous Pulp in Paris in June 2007, they stopped their monthly residency (the historical and hysteric NAKED nights, from which they have drawn an excellent CD by the same name), and every week-end they deliver numerous sets to the four corners of the world. Their tours bring them regularly to the hot spots of Europe, of Asia or of the United-States.
After a successful maxi LP with underground hit (heart pounding GIRLS ON TOP) released on German label Traum, they released their album TIME on their own label Chateaurouge in conjunction with distributor Nocturne, as well as licensing Time for world distribution to the prestigious Cologne (Köln) based label, Kompakt. One of Berlin’s most illustrious figures, Moritz Von Oswald, founder of the Maurizio Duo, helped out Scratch Massive on their album in the all important stage of mastering. He also engineered the mastering of “Underground Needs Your Money Baby” which brought warmth and precision reminiscent of records with that nice sonic power.
In 1993, young Sebastien and Maud met in La Baule clubs – on the French- Atlantic ocean front. For a while, they were part of the rave and clubbing generation travelling throughout France with its parties and they didn’t hesitate to go hundreds of miles to listen to Garnier at the Rex club. That magical period gave birth to their musical duo, and in 1999, a fistful of first electro maxi LPs were brought to life on the Euterpe label. In 2003, came their first album ENEMY & LOVERS, successful maxi LPs (Icebreaker), uplifting remixes (for John Lord Fonda, Telepopmusik or Demon), solo singles for Sebastien (under the pseudonym Harvey Smithfield), a CD from their label CHATEAUROUGE compilation, participations in excellent compilations (Ivan Smagghe, 2 Many Djs, Colin Dale…), their mixed CD NAKED ( Soulwax, Nina Hagen, !!!, Steve Bug or Death in Vegas), the soundtrack of the film BROKEN ENGLISH (2007) directed by Zoe Cassavetes, album TIME and last but not least UNDERGROUND NEEDS YOUR MONEY BABY.
